We had the opportunity to go on a faluka, which is a sail boat as you can see below. We took the faluka up the nile river. It was awesome. The nile river was right behind the hotel that we were staying at. It was gorgeous. Although you would NEVER want to get in the Nile. It is not so clean. It was really fun though and i loved looking out at all the other sailboats and the people and scenery along the shores.
The number 2 source of income for the Egyptians is the money that they make from Tourism. Everywhere you went you always had someone wanting you to buy something. They are very persistant salemen. Even when we were out on our faluka ride some cute little kids rowed out to us in their little boat trying to sell us things. The other picture i have is the picture that i took of our HOT rudder boy on our faluka ride. This picture doesn't do him justice because you can't see his face very well but he was really cute. :)
Here is a picture of everybody on my fieldtrip bus in front of the statues of Menes. They are huge statues. The amazing thing to think about is that these were the statues that were at the doorway to a temple. Can you imagine how big the temple must have been!!!!!!
So here i am in front of the Temple for Ramses III. Don't i look fabulous with my fanny pack!!:) I just liked how there were numerous door ways all the way back. Of course you cannot have a temple with out pillars. The other picture is a picture of my roommate Bre and me hugging the pillar. They are huge!!! I really liked looking at all the heiroglyphics and to see how big everything was. One thing is for sure. The Pharoahs liked to make sure people remembered them and it worked because how can you forget them when they have these huge buildings built for them. Everything they built was huge. They defianantly made sure that people knew that they built it too with all the heiroglyphics and carvings of them.
Below is a picture of me in front of a statue of Ramses III. This is actually one of the many statues of Ramses III. I tired to pick the one that was the most intact. It just shows how massive they were. I look so small next to it. I also included one of the many pictures that i took of the heiroglyphics. I loved looking at them and seeing how intricate some of them were and wondering what they all meant. The ones below are in a cartouche so they are probably the name of Ramses III. A cartouche is the bubble looking thing surrounding the carved heiroglyphics. They would write the Pharoahs names inside these cartouches. Only Pharoah's could have their names written inside the cartouches. They also would have two cartouches for the Pharoah's name. They would have one for their birth name and then one with the name that they recieved when they became Pharoah.

It didn't really click for me that those two statues were the entrance to a temple. I turned into rumble after an earthquake. I remember that. Did you ride a camel?
I loved the Temple of Ramses III. That was incredible and it was nice that you could go off by yourself and discover the rooms for yourselves.
